Newcastle continued their unbeaten run making it three games without defeat against bottom of the table Aston Villa, although most Toon fans will be disappointed not to have taken all three points for the third game running, and they’d be right!
In what was a pretty even game it will be the Magpies that are kicking themselves after taking the lead following Colo’s half volley following a corner (yes, a corner) and then missing first a golden opportunity through deJong when it seemed easier to head in from 3 yards out with the score still 1-0.
in the end a wonder goal from Ayew would be enough to give the visitors a point, still leaving them behind 4th bottom Newcastle after another crazy weekend in the Premier League.
Wins for Bournemouth and unbelievably Norwich at Manchester United had piled more pressure onto Newcastle United who couldn’t build on two excellent wins against Liverpool and last week Spurs away.
As the dust settles however, only time will tell if this was a point gained to two thrown away. Certainly a win against a hot and cold Everton this Saturday meaning 10 points from 12 would make it feel like a very good few weeks.
An injury to Cisse, as yet unknown in severity, will be a concern for McClaren who named an unchanged side in spite of both Mitro and Perez having such a huge impact against Spurs. It will be interesting to see if any enforced change will add more of cutting edge to the team which in truth was the difference between just 1 and all 3 points on this occasion.
Should we just go with ‘glass half full’ for now? Go on then, that’s 7 points from 9 including games vrs Liverpool and away to Tottenham. Roll on Everton…..
Man of the Match:
Anita (I know, right)
