Newcastle United failed to make it 4 games unbeaten after a drab performance on a d drab night in Burnley.

In truth a draw had looked the most likely result for most of the night as both sides struggled to find away through their opposing teams back line.

Of the two keepers Elliot did have more to do, certainly through the early exchanges. Although the best save of the game was made by his opposite number when Pope tipped a great curling effort from Perez just wide on the hour mark.

The only goal of the game would come from an uncharacteristic error from the otherwise outstanding Lejeune, who had kept his place in front of Clark. His push out of the box was a one man press and the lack of a foul called after a challenge on Perez, a foul that should have been given, left his fellow Newcastle defenders short staffed at the back. A shot saved, led to a deep cross by Gudmundsson to find Hendrick unmarked at the back stick to control and fire home. Whilst the result seemed harsh it just shows what one lapse in concentration will cost a this level.
