One in one out in two days at the back for Rafa with arrival of centre half Fabian Schar being finalised before the ink had dried on deal that saw Mbemba leave yesterday.
Rafa seemed happy enough welcoming the Swiss who joins on a 3 year deal from Deportivo de La Coruna. The fee, reported to be a modest £3.5m for the 26 year old.
Schar comes straight from his counties World Cup exploits, where he and his team acquitted themselves well, getting out of Group E after beating Serbia and gaining creditable draws against Costa Rica and a below par Brazil.
Fabian has 42 caps for his country and played 25 league matches last season for Deportivo, picking up 10 yellows in the process.
Only time will tell is this is one that Rafa really wanted. Though it does seem an alarming trend that rather than picking up serial winners in the transfer market, we’ve picked up yet another player who was relegated last season!
