Andy Carroll rejoins Newcastle United on a free transfer
Andy Carroll has rejoined Newcastle United on a pay as you play contract for the season 2019/20.
The ex Mag and local lad was sold by United eight and a half years ago to Liverpool for £35m, a record sale that still exists today for the Magpies.
But after stints at the reds and West Ham the Geordie boy is back to his old stomping ground as is clearly delighted to be back.
“It’s an amazing feeling to be back. On the way up it was just butterflied in the stomach. I couldn’t believe it really. I think there is unfinished business. I left on a high. I want to come back and get back to where I was, scoring goals and playing games and enjoying it really.”
As a free agent the deal suits all parties. If he’s fit he will certainly get his share of minutes on the pitch you’d expect and will be a real handful for any defence. If he’s not, then it’s no skin of United’s nose as he’ll be on a minimal retainer.
Let’s hope we see him out there soon!
