Welcome Jamal

Under any circumstances the capture of one of the hottest full-back properties in the Premier League, and at the tender ago of just 22 years old, would be a real coup for Newcastle United.

Jamal Lewis may have been relegated with Norwich last season but his talent is not up for debate. The subject of concrete interest from Liverpool at the start of this transfer window, and with continued speculation that Leicester were very interested in bringing the round lad to the King Power, the Magpies have done some tremendous business in getting him to St James Park.

Joining on a 5 year deal, Jamal will immediately link up with his United teammates and could well be thrown straight into the deep end with a debut at West Ham on Saturday night.

Pacy, good going forward, and defensively astute for someone so young, Bruce and co will be hoping that this young lad can deliver great things at Newcastle United. They are not alone.

For us, whilst the signing of Wilson was most crucial given our lack of cutting edge, and even with Fraser adding some much needed quality and depth to that attacking lineup, this signing is perhaps the most impressive. Only time will tell how good this lad will be, but we’re absolutely delighted he’s here.

Coming just hours after the first of yesterday’s double signing of the ex-Bournemouth lads, Jamal left the Northern Ireland International camp early, with his national manager stating he had a lot on his plate right now as his future needed to be sorted.

As for Bruce, he was rightly delighted to have added the full-back to his squad. “It’s been a great week for us with incoming players. We have had to be patient but these player improve us, which is key”.

He’s not wrong.

And tellingly, perhaps for the first time ever, these signings seem to be those of the manager. One’s that he really wanted, rather than those pushed in his direction by a faceless scouting team.
