Nabil Bentaleb has joined the Magpies on loan, with an option to buy, from German club Schalke.
The 25 year old midfielder would become the third Algerian to play for Newcastle United on his debut, having previously played in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur, but for the fact he was born in Lille, France. He represents Algeria following his taking citizenship through the birth place of his parent.
Bentaleb played in centre midfield, but can play in a slightly more advanced position, and has played 35 times for Algeria scoring 5 goals. He had previously represented France at U19 level.
His time in the Bundesliga being possibly his best spell as a professional before falling out of favour this season.
