Six More Years!
A week of Allan Saint-Maximin posting an hour glass without any context was concluded with an announcement that United's most gifted player had signed an upgrade to his current contract that could see the enigmatic Frenchman at the club until 2026.
Whilst ASM may still have had 5 years left on his contract, this deal sees yet another shift in policy from the club with the Magpies Nr 10 rewarded for an outstanding start to his Newcastle United career.
History would suggest that with so many years on left his deal the club would usually be in no rush to agree any improvement. But with Allan clearly the hottest property on Tyneside, Bruce and the club have move swiftly to try and keep their main man happy.
And happy he would certainly seem to be...
"Every club I'd been before, the fans loved me - but not like the Newcastle fans. That's really important, because for me, you have the football and everything, but you have the human and they give me something different. So if I can give back to the supporters and to the club with a new deal, I'm really happy"
In what could easily be seen as another cryptic message from Saint-Maximin the player also talked about the 'Newcastle Project'. Under any 'normal' circumstances, ie without the backdrop of a possible takeover, you'd assume this was the usual sales pitch from those in the club to push the player toward a new deal.
But with so many years on his contract, and a massively growing reputation, you could also argue there was no need for the lad to rush into a new contract.
Let's hope he's right...
