Exit Confirmed: SHANE FERGUSON

Newcastle United confirmed today the exit of Shane Ferguson who joins Millwall on a permanent deal.

Ferguson who played 32 times for NUFC, most of those as a sub, has spent the majority of his recent years on loan both in England and with Rangers in Scotland. He has been at Millwall since the beginning of the season on loan but has now made the switch to The Lions permanent.

The Northern Ireland International, who can play both on the left of midfield and at left back, has enjoyed a decent spell down south playing 26, scoring 2 and setting up a further 5.

His sale comes on the same day as Newcastle announced that they had agreed a fee of £12m for Andros Townsend.

A statement from Newcastle read:

Newcastle United defender Shane Ferguson has joined Millwall on a permanent basis for an undisclosed fee.

The Northern Ireland international left-back, who can also play in midfield, has been on loan with the League One outfit since August, making 28 appearances in all competitions to date.

And Ferguson has now turned that into a full-time deal, signing an 18-month contract at the New Den.

Twenty-four-year-old Ferguson was born in Derry, in Northern Ireland, but came up through the ranks on Tyneside before making his Magpies' debut in August 2010, at Accrington Stanley in the League Cup.

He made 32 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle, with 19 of those coming as a substitute, and also spent time on loan at Birmingham City and Glasgow Rangers over the last three seasons.
