Ivan Toney has left Newcastle United for Peterborough United after three years at the club. Well, kind of!
Having signed from Northampton Town back in 2015, Ivan played just four games for Newcastle United first team, not scoring once. Yes, he’s a striker for those who don’t know, and I remember the words of an assistant manager of a League 1 side I was talking to when we singed him all those years ago ‘he’s not good enough to play for us on a Saturday, god knows what’s going on there!’
And so it proved.
Farmed out to Barnsley, Shrewsbury, Scunthorpe, Wigan and then Scunthorpe again he did manage to get 25 goals in 88 games for that lot. Yea, we know!
I dare not think about what we’ve payed him in wages over the years, because you can bet your bottom dollar they weren’t covered 100% by the clubs who were loaning him. At least we got £700k for him, having signed him for £500k.
